VIETNAM NATIONAL PARK

Featured Wildlife National Parks of Vietnam

Below are some of the featured wildlife national parks, wildlife parks, wildlife sanctuaries, state parks, national
parks and wildlife reserves of Vietnam. We select them on the basis of user rating and reviews as well as our
own editorial discretion keeping in mind wildlife tourism, wildlife adventure, expedition and wildlife safari
opportunities.

Ba Be National Park or Ba Be Lake located in Bac Can Province, 240km from Hanoi and covers more than
23,000 hectares boasting waterfalls, rivers, deep valleys, lakes and caves set amid towering peaks. The
whole area is home to many ethnic minority communities. Ba Be Lake is in fact three lakes linked by wide
channels, about 8km long and 400m wide. The surface is always calm, making a boat trip a peaceful
experience. More information on Ba Be National Park

Ba Vi National Park is centered on Mount Ba Vi, a mountain isolate situated about 50 km west of Hanoi with
its peak at Vua Peak of 1,296 m, Tan Vien Peak of 1,226 m and Ngoc Hoa Peak of 1,120m. Because of the
mountainous topography, the climate at Ba Vi varies with altitude. Above 500 m, fog enshrouds the top of
the mountain on most days. Except for the Da River on the western side of the national park, Ba Vi has no
large, permanent water bodies. Streams in the national park are small, steep sided and fast flowing. In the
rainy season, the volume of water flowing through these small watercourses and over the surface of the
ground is sometimes sufficient to cause landslides. In the dry season, however, many of the streams are dry.

Bach Ma National Park is located in the provinces of Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam, covers an area of
about 22,000 ha in the districts of Phu Loc and Nam Dong. It was created in 1991 to protect the centre of the
last corridor of forest stretching from the South China Sea to the Annamite mountain range at the border with
the Lao PDR . With steep mountains and dense forests this area is home to a wide variety of animals and
plants. At the base of the mountains there is tropical monsoon forest, above 900 m sub-tropical forest. There
are species from both northern and southern Vietnam , and Bach Ma is recognized as one of the areas of
Indochina with high biodiversity. Bach Ma mountain peak is the highest point in the park at 1450 m above sea
level and is only 18 km away from the coast. More information on Bach Ma National Park

Cat Ba Island, the largest island of the Cat Ba Archipelago, offers some of the most beautiful terrain and
diverse ecosystems in Vietnam, including primeval forest, coastal mangroves, waterfalls, limestone lakes,
freshwater swamps, and hot springs. The island's abundant fauna includes boar, wild cat, porcupine, deer,
and monkey.

Cat Tien National Park, 150 km from Hochiminh City, supports an astounding variety of bird life, a very healthy
population of monkeys. Nam Cat Tien boasts a wide range of evergreen, semi deciduous and bamboo
forests; some 1800 species of plants thrive in the park. In 2002 UNESCO added Cat Tien National Park to its
list of biosphere reserves.

Cuc Phuong, 140km (87mi) from Hanoi, preserves 222 sq km (87 sq mi) of primary tropical forest. It's home
to an amazing variety of animal and plant life, with animals such as the yellow macaque and the spotted deer,
320 species of bird and has many grottoes, one of which has yielded prehistoric stone tools. Hiking is
possible here.

Phong Nha-Ke Bang, 50 km northwest of Dong Hoi, is an over 200,000 hectares of parkland includes
beautiful limestone formations, grottoes and caves as well as lush forestland covering 95 percent of the
park area. In addition to the diversity in the ecosystem, Phong Nha-Ke Bang is home to archeological and
historical relics such as an ancient hieroglyphic script of the Cham ethnic minority, Xuan Son ferry station,
Ho Chi Minh Trail and Road 20 used during the US resistance war.
In 2000, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park was designated a Unesco World Heritage site.

Tam Dao National Park is a protected area zone in North Vietnam, about 85 km northwest of Hanoi. It was
established in 1996, succeeding from The Conservation Forest Tam Dao which was formed in 1977. There
are two sites for tourists in the park. The first is Tam Dao town which was established at the beginning of
the 20th century. Tam Dao town is nestled in a valley covering only 3 km2. There now remain some villas and
palaces built by French colonists. It has Thac Bac (The Silver Fall), Rung Rinh peak and Tam Dao 2, a
remnant of another resort built many years ago. The second tourist location is Tay Thien site. It includes Tay
Thien Quoc Mau Temple (literally The "Temple of East Heaven National Mother") and many pagodas.

Tram Chim National Park is a national park in Dong Thap Muoi, Dong Thap Province. This national park is
created to protect several rare birds, especially the Sarus Crane (Grus antigone), a species listed in the
IUCN Red Book.

Yok Don National Park is a national park located in Buon Don District, Dak Lak province, Vietnam central
highland, 40 km west of Buon Me Thuot City. This park was established in 1991 to protect 582 km² of a
biological area of khộp lowland forest.

Yok Don National Park is also an attractive destination where you can do trekking to minority villages,
elephant riding through the forests, staying overnight in Ban Don Village and enjoying traditional activities
like gong performance and drinking Jar wine.
